And more...

California, traditionally known for its beaches and wine, has become home to the San Jose Sharks, a professional hockey team based in San Jose, California. Their home games are played at the Shark Tank, a nickname given to the HP Pavilion.

The San Jose Sharks are not the first hockey team in California. The California Golden Seals were based there from 1967 to 1976, before moving to Cleveland. In 1991, a new team was formed by Howard Baldwin and they called themselves the Sharks, chosen by the many sharks in the Pacific Ocean. The team's logo is a triangle, with a shark biting through a hockey stick, one of the fiercest logos that the team officials hoped would be reflected in their games.

Although the team is a newer addition, they have won multiple trophies including the Presidents trophy in 2009 and the Hart Memorial Trophy in 2006. In 2009, Todd McLellan was the All-Star Game head coach. While the Stanley Cup had eluded the team, they were in multiple championship games and played impressively for an "underdog" team. In the 2009-10, and 2010-11 seasons, the team made it to the Conference Finals, but lost to the Blackhawks and the Canucks. Hopes are high for the team and their future.

Although a hockey team, the Sharks are best known for their game antics and traditions more than their hockey. At the beginning of each home game, a 17-foot shark mouth is lowered from the ceiling. With fog and special lights, the players come through the mouth while the popular Metallica song "Seek and Destroy" is played. Also, the Jaws theme song is played when the Sharks go on a power play, even involving the fans who do "The Chomp" in the stands. The games are just as entertaining as competitive and are popular in their area. Sure to put on a great game, the Sharks are both a great and entertaining team.
