And more...The Utah Jazz are a professional basketball team. The franchise joined the NBA in 1974 as the New Orleans Jazz, it was then moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1979 after 5 dismal seasons in New Orleans. 5 years later, the team made its first playoff appearance and went on to make the playoffs every year for the following 19 seasons. The Utah Jazz home arena was Salt Palace from 1979 to 1991 before the team moved into EnergySolutions Arena, formerly known as the Delta Center, in 1991 where they still play today. Led by superstars like Karl Malone and John Stockton, arguably the best power forward-point guard combination the NBA has ever known, the Jazz were an NBA Western Conference powerhouse making it to the western Conference Finals 3 straight years in 1996, 97 and 98 advancing to the Finals twice. However, they've never won a championship falling both times to Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls in the 1997 and 1998 finals. After the departure of Malone and Stockton in 2003, the team underwent a playoff drought and didn't get into to the playoffs again until 2007 where they were defeated by the Golden State Warriors in the Western Conference Semifinals. They went on to make the playoffs the following 3 seasons losing in the Conference Semifinals, first round and conference Semifinals respectively. In addition to Malone and Stockton, the Utah Jazz uniform has been worn by a number of very talented basketball players such shooting guard “Pistol” Pete Maravich, forward Adrian Dantley, shooting guard Jeff Hornacek, point guard Darrell Griffith, and center Mark Eaton. The team has also had its share of famous head coaches such as Frank Layden and Jerry Sloan. The Utah Jazz have undergone a few rebuilding seasons during which they've acquired some pretty talented prospects, such as Deron Williams and Carlos Boozer, who are believed to be the next wave of workhorses that will help propel the franchise to its next stint of glory years.
