The Golden State Warriors are a Pro Sports American professional basketball team based at Oakland, CA. They are part of the Pacific Division of the heavily loaded Western Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

The team was established in 1946, as the Philadelphia Warriors, in Philadelphia, PA, where the franchise won the Basketball Association of America (BAA). The league's first-ever championship, the league that would eventually become the National Basketball Association. The Golden State Warriors are one of the three original members of the NBA still in existence. The team relocated to the Bay Area and became known as the "San Francisco Warriors" in 1962 and later adopted the "Golden State" moniker prior to the 1971-72 season. The team has played all of its home games in the Oracle Arena since 1966, except for one year.

The Oracle Arena opened in 1966 as the Coliseum and is the oldest being in use in the NBA. The facility was completely renovated in 1997, at a cost of around $121 million with a seating capacity of 19,596. Oracle Corp. has a 10-year naming rights from 2006. The old Coliseum has hosted many other teams and events too. Oracle Arena is right next to the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, home of the NFL's Raiders and the Athletics (A's) of Major League Baseball. Oracle Arena is connected to Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) at the Coliseum/Oakland Airport Station.

The Warriors have won three NBA championships (1947, 1956 and 1975) tying them for 5th in the NBA and have gone to the NBA Finals on three other occasions (1948, 1964 and 1967). Through their history, the Warriors have had 18 Hall of Famers; six of whom were named as one of the NBA's 50 Greatest Players in 1996. In 2007, under Don Nelson the Warriors qualified for the playoffs after 13 drought-filled years, and more remarkably went on to upset Mavericks in the first round to become the first eighth seeded team to eliminate the top seed in a 7 game play off format.

Notable current players in Warrior's roster include Stephen Curry, Monta Ellis and David Lee. They are in a rebuilding mode now called 'Fresh era' after the 'We Believe' era of 2007. They have an entirely fresh coaching staff team under Mark Jackson. Warriors list of Hall of Famers includes Nate Thurmond, Rick Barry, Wilt Chamberlain, Robert Parish and 18 others. George Karl, Don Nelson, Rick Adelman, P.J. Carlesimo have all served as Coaching Head at Warriors. Wilt Chamberlain (1960), Rick Barry (1966), Jamaal Wilkes (1975), Mitch Richmond (1989) and Chris Webber (1994) have won their Rookie of Year award while playing for Warriors.
