And more...

The Cleveland Cavaliers are a professional basketball team that joined the NBA, along with the Buffalo Braves and the Portland Trail Blazers, in the 1970 NBA expansion. They played at the Cleveland Arena for the first 4 years, they then moved to the Coliseum at Richfield where they played the next 20 seasons before moving to Quicken Loans Arena, formerly known as Gund Arena, where they still play today.

As with most expansion teams, the Cleveland Cavaliers inaugural season was less than stellar; they lost their first 15 games, posted a record of 15 and 67 and finished the year at the bottom of their division. The following season would turn out to be much of the same for the franchise as their number one pick from the 1971 draft, that the team were to be built around, hurt his leg shortly after the start of the season and never lived up to expectations. The Cavaliers would go on to win just 23 games that year and finished, once again, at the bottom of the pack.

The franchise managed to gradually turn things around a little each year, and in 1976 the Cavs manged to put together a 49 win season to clinch their first Central Division title and playoff birth. They went on to win the first round of the playoff and make it to the eastern conference finals where they fell short to the Boston Celtics who went on to win the NBA championship that year. In 2003, the Cleveland Cavaliers drafted superstar Lebron James and went on to make the playoff 5 out of 7 seasons, making it the NBA Finals in 2007 for the first time in franchise history.

In addition to Lebron James, the franchise has seen some very talented players come and go such as guard-forward Bingo Smith, shooting guard Austin Carr, point guard Ron Harper and center Nate Thurmond. Some notable coaches are Chuck Daily and Mike Brown.

The Lebron James era is now over in Cleveland. The Cleveland Cavaliers are undergoing a rebuilding period in the hopes to put together a competitive product that will bring the NBA playoffs back to Cleveland.
