The Sacramento Kings are a Pro-Basketball team based at Sacramento, the Capital city of California, United States. The Kings are a member of the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). They are the only Pro Sports team out of the "big four" leagues located at Sacramento right now. The Kings were once famous for their sell-out raucous cow-bell ringing crowd and are owned by the charismatic Maloof brothers. Right now, Sacramento Kings face an uncertain future due to their plans to move elsewhere.

The Kings were a local team based at Rochester, New York in the early 1920s, they are one of the oldest basketball clubs existing still. They joined the National Basketball League (NBL) in 1945 as the Rochester Royals and defected in 1948 to Basketball Association of America BAA. In 1949 after NBL and BAA merged, Rochester Royals became members of the newly formed NBA. Royals were successful on the court, but could not turn a profit in the small market of Rochester, so they relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1957, and then to Kansas City, Missouri in 1972. They renamed to Kansas City Kings and later they moved to Sacramento in 1985. Kings tasted their first success as a team in early 2000's. During mid 2000, the core team was broken up, the team again slumped to obscurity finishing last in the league again.

Talks for a new Arena between the team and officials kept breaking down over the costs. Maloof Brothers wanted to move the team to a better visible market to increase profitability and ability to attract star players. The move and the name change to "Anaheim Royals" started becoming official. Surprisingly, Kevin Johnson Sacramento's Mayor and former NBA player himself stepped in and for now, they are stay put at Sacramento for the 2011-12 NBA season.

The Kings play their home games at Power Balance Pavilion (formerly ARCO Arena), an indoor arena, located in the Natomas area of Sacramento, California and owned operated by Maloof Sports & Entertainment. They played at the original Arco Arena (also known as Sacramento Sports Arena) for three seasons. The current facility is one of the least expensive in the league. The floors in the seating area are made of hardwood, making it the loudest in the NBA.

The Rochester Royals team tasted success very early and won the NBL championship in 1946 and the conference championship & NBA championship in 1951. Since then they have won five division championships.

Tyreke Evans was the first Sacramento era player to receive the NBA Rookie of the Year Award in 2010. Tyreke Evans is also the 4th rookie in NBA history, after Oscar Robertson, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James, to average 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists per game for the full season.

Early 2000s saw a bit of success with the core team of Chris Webber, Vlade Divac, Peja Stojakovic, Mike Bibby, and Doug Christie guided by Rick Adelman; the team and the coaches followed the "Princeton offense" to book and became the entertainment darlings of Pro Sports. Nate Archibald and Oscar Robertson are amongst the Hall of Famers who played for Royals/Kings at some point of their career. Tyreke Evans and Chris Webber have won the Rookie of the Year awards.
