And more...

The Phoenix Suns are a professional basketball team that joined the NBA, along with the Milwaukee Bucks, in the 1968 NBA expansion. For the first 20 years of its existence, the team was the only major professional sports franchise in the state of Arizona; the Arizona Cardinals of the NFL made their debut in 1988 after the franchise was moved from St Louis.

During their initial 24 years, The Phoenix Suns home arena was the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, they then moved to the America West Arena, now known as the US Airways Center.

The Duns went off to a rocky start making the playoffs only once in their first 7 years of play, but things started to turn around in the 1975-76 season after a few key acquisitions that propelled the team to the NBA finals that year. And although they would fail to make the playoff the following season, they went on to qualify for post-season play 8 consecutive years after that.

Although the Suns have never won an NBA Championship, they have had an illustrious history posting 19 seasons with 50 or more wins, earning a playoff birth 29 times, appearing in the Western Conference Finals 9 times and advancing to the NBA Finals twice. Not too shabby!

The Phoenix Suns uniform has been worn by some very talented basketball players such as point guard Kevin Johnson, shooting guard Walter Davis, center Alvan Adams, guard-forward Danny Ainge, strong forward Dick Van Arsdale, guard-forward Dan Majerle, point guard Steve Nash and last but certainly not least, the ever-flamboyant power forward "Sir" Charles Barkley. The franchise has also had its share of famous coaches such as Cotton Fitzsimmons and Paul Westphal.

All in all, the Suns have had a distinguished NBA history and despite the fact that the franchise has yet to bring home a championship trophy, the future looks bright, the fan support is stronger than ever and the basketball promised land could be right around the corner for the city.
